Your First Five Crime Studies of February 12
Today's crime studies include work on the Light Triad
I'm Aaron Jacklin, and this is Explaining Crime, an independent newsletter that helps you explain crime to your audience.
Your First Five is a daily (M-F) series that publishes a curated selection of recent research related to crime and justice. Each post contains links to new studies that I hope will enhance your work explaining crime. Published each weekday at about 7 a.m., E.S.T.
These new criminology and criminal justice studies were published recently by journals I monitor.
1. Screening for Light Personalities in Portugal: A Cross-Cultural Validation of the Light Triad Scale With an At-risk-of-delinquency Sample, published in International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology. (Open access)
2. Executive Functioning and Offending Behavior: An Updated Meta-Analysis, published in Criminal Justice and Behavior. (Restricted access)
3. Assessment of a domestic violence telecare protection system from the victims’ perspective, published in European Journal of Criminology. (Restricted access)
4. “Children Are Like Vuvuzelas Always Ready to Blow”: Exploring How to Engage Young Children in Violence Research, published in Journal of Interpersonal Violence. (Open access)
5. Citizen empowerment as a police force multiplier: Reproducing social domination through a 21st century personal safety app, published in Crime, Media, Culture: An International Journal. (Open access)
I might cover some of these studies further in Understanding Crime. If one sounds interesting or important, let me know in the comments.
Right now, I'm considering number 1. Here's why:
The Light Triad of personality refers to three prosocial personality traits—Faith in Humanity, Humanism, and Kantianism—that promote the worth and dignity of other people, focus on ethical behavior and empathy, and confidence that other people are naturally good. The aim of the present study is to examine the psychometric properties of the Light Triad Scale (LTS)—Portuguese version.
While familiar with the Dark Triad, this was the first time I’d come across the (relatively new) Light Triad.
