A missing person who doesn't fit an "ideal" is less likely to be found
As found in one of the studies in this week's Crime Research Update: Crime Stage Edition
Welcome to The Art of Explaining Crime, the independent newsletter that helps you think and write about crime.
Use this tip sheet to help you integrate the latest research into your work. It’s a directory of new crime research published by the academic journals that I monitor. For example:
Is there an ideal missing person? A theoretical case study using long-term unresolved missing persons cases (European Journal of Criminology) Eric Halford, Carlos Iglesias

Crime Research Update and Five Studies About are the output of my research discovery system (Update coming soon).

This research compilation is genuinely valuable for understanding systemic biases in investigations. The finding about 'ideal' missing persons getting more attention really struck me becuase I remember a local case where the media coverage felt so uneven. It makes you wonder how many cases go cold just becuse the victim doesnt fit certain demographics. Such an important blind spot to highlight.
It does make you wonder. I'll see if I can dig up any research on this question. I'll let you know if I do.
